November Case Files - Mid-Month Reveal | Deadline: December 4, 2022

Here we are, midway through November, and we're excited to share inspiration for our second Case File. Haven't yet played along with our first Case File? No worries--both challenges stay open until December 4.

PRIZES

CSI will be giving away a $20 (U.S. dollars) gift certificate to your favorite online craft store (must take Paypal) to one lucky player each month.

We'll also be inviting some players whose work catches our eye to serve as Guest Detectives.

CASE FILES

Autumn is in full swing in my part of the world with trees ablaze and leaves carpeting the lawn. We know Halloween was just yesterday, so we're dedicating our first challenge to scrapping the pictures you took of the Halloween Festivities. Our second Case File is devoted to Thanksgiving. As always, you don't have to scrap these topics. Draw your own inspiration from The Scene on the Case File, or you can use the traditional clues, which can be found at the bottom of this blog post.

GALLERY FAVE GUEST DETECTIVES

These talented ladies' work caught our eye in previous months' challenges, so we invited them to be guest designers for the month.

My name is Lara Moss AKA Scrappykea on various social media platforms and I have been scrapbooking for twenty-ish years, starting when my three children were babies. Scrapbooking was my ‘therapy’ as I navigated family life with three children under the age of three and continues to be my creative outlet (and therapy) with those three children all now being young adults. I cherish the friendships - both virtual and physical that this hobby has afforded me over the years and enjoy a good challenge which is what brought me here and am excited to be asked to be a guest designer - Thanks Debbi and the CSI Team!

How I solved the Case: Evidence Used: I loved the colours in this image and pulled these into my layout - melon, mist, sage and white with a few other colour touches. Plaid was used to create a diagonal. Coffee is food right? I have also used it as my ‘food’ evidence for this case. I created a cutfile in Cricut Design Space that used leaves and circular elements - further circles were added to support this cutfile - even the title and journaling spot are circular elements.

Testimony: Circular journaling spot was used and coffee with friends and family is like a meal…

The Scheme - I have used all of the colours in the scheme with touches of a few other colours.

Ali Thomas Steer

My name is Ali and I have been scrapbooking since 2005 when I discovered all the beautiful products I could play with, and I haven't stopped since! I live in the London suburbs with my family and two of my three grown-up children, who are the main source of my photo inspiration. I love CSI as it challenges me to use up my stash, mix and match collections and indulges my love of scraps (I can't throw anything pretty away!) I also love travel, birdwatching and crochet. I am a member of the Cheam Paper Party crop in my local area.

How I solved the Case: I had to use the gorgeous muted colours to scrap this photo of a special family holiday meal. I used a brick stencil to make my background, then assembled the pear cutfile as my centrepiece, which I set on the diagonal, adding plaid leaves and a banner, inspired by the Case File photo. I then matted my photo with burlap, and added flowers and some gold elements. November is a great month to look back with gratitude - I wish we celebrated Thanksgiving in the UK.

Debra Beer

My name is Debra Beer, I live in the Upper Hunter Valley of NSW, Australia.
I am mother to 2 beautiful daughters and 5 amazing grandchildren.
I have been scrapping for over 25 years, and love it, especially entering challenges.
My interests include scrapping, photography, travel and spending time with family.
I am thrilled to be Guest Designer for CSI Challenges.

How I solved the Case: I loved the colours of the Moodboard, to highlight my photo, a beautiful nibbles platter. I tore 2 papers diagonally, and layered them as a base for my layout. I went with the food theme, using transparencies under my photo as photo mats. I also used transparent banners and an acetate saying with gold print. Adding, circular elements, leaves, flowers, touches of gold and twine to finish my layout

Cynthia Baldwin
Hi, I'm Cynthia Baldwin. I live in Cypress, Texas (northwest Houston) with my husband of over 25 years, John. We have two kids, Nick and Aly, plus our fur baby Lucy. I've been papercrafting/memory-keeping for over thirty years, and I still love the creativity, photography, generous community - and of course the pretty supplies! - that come with this awesome hobby.

Thanks to Debbi and the CSI design team for providing me some much-needed inspiration for my memory-keeping.

How I solved the Case: I don't have any Thanksgiving photos yet, but the leaves inspired me to create something about fall, and since we live in the South, fall means football! These are family photos from a recent weekend full of football and good times visiting friends in Mississippi. Well, mostly good, because although the football game didn't go the way my husband and kids wanted, it was still fun getting together.

I found the burlap-like paper in my stash, and I love the case file's sage green color, so that became my background. I included lots of leafy papers and embellishments and gold elements. I also used the clues for bricks, labels, flowers, and something transparent (vellum for my journaling). I used a sketch from Sketch N Scrap for the design of the page.
Thanks for the opportunity to create projects for CSI!

INSPIRATION

And now, are you ready for some serious inspiration? Here's what our design team created with this month's first Case File. We will share creations for our other Case File on the 15th of the month.

The CSI design team masterfully cracked the Case. We'll share how we solved the Case on Facebook and Instagram.

My layout was loosely inspired by a Paper Issues sketch.

How I solved the Case: We don't celebrate Halloween but I love the season and especially Harvest Festival so I chose to showcase my autumnal photo with the lovely suggested colour palette. I made a wonky circle of triangles inspired by the little people, then sewed some with stripes and swirls and painted others. I used pumpkins, pears and leaves and a multicoloured title, as well as using stars as bullet points for my journaling.

How I solved the Case: I was inspired to use some of the Moodboard colours to create a Halloween layout. I used texture paste and, oxide inks and Stamping to create my background. The two tone title, highlighted the Halloween themed elements- a bat, pumpkins, a skull and a spider in its Web. A few stars and flowers finished my layout nicely.

Cynthia Baldwin

Hi, I'm Cynthia Baldwin. I live in Cypress, Texas (northwest Houston) with my husband of over 25 years, John. We have two kids, Nick and Aly, plus our fur baby Lucy. Thanks to Debbi and the CSI design team for providing me some much-needed inspiration for my memory-keeping.

How I solved the Case: I didn't have any Halloween pics, but the black and white reminded me of my dog Lucy. These pics are from a recent road trip we took when we helped my daughter move into a new college apartment. Lucy likes riding in the car, but this was different because we had a rental van, and she couldn't reach the window to stick her head out like she likes to do!

I started with the colors of the case file, and then added a few more. (CSI files are great, because you can pick and choose from the clues and colors, and you can shop your stash.) I also used the clues for distressed solid background, triangle print, stars, paint, circles, and stitches.

I used an SOS sketch for my page design.
