Welcome to June at CSI, Investigators!
We’re stirring up something special this month at CSI. June’s theme is Country Cooking, with a dash of Summer sunshine—but as always, you can interpret the Case Files however your creative heart desires. Whether you’re inspired by cozy kitchens or breezy summer days, we can’t wait to see how you solve these new Cases.
And we’re thrilled to announce that guest designers are back! After a little hiatus, we’re welcoming talented creatives who will join our Detectives in sharing their beautiful layouts and stories. This reveal spotlights Case File No. 478, our first June Case File, brimming with cozy country‑kitchen charm and nostalgic storytelling. Inspiration for the second Case File will be unveiled on June 15, but remember—both June Case Files will remain open through July 4, giving you plenty of time to explore the clues, gather your evidence, and craft your creative layouts.
Our Detective Squad is always hot on the trail of standout scrappers! If your layout leaves us awestruck, you just might get deputized as a Guest Detective. We’ll be combing through the case files on the 4th of each month, so make sure your evidence—er, layout—is filed in the album by then. And don’t worry—our cold cases are always open, so feel free to revisit old clues whenever inspiration strikes. Crack enough crafty cases and leave a trail of wow-worthy work… and you could find yourself recruited to our elite Design Team Task Force!
This Month's Guest Designers
We’re delighted to welcome our guest designers back to CSI! Each brings a unique perspective and artistic flair. Their layouts will appear alongside the Detectives' work in the Inspiration section of this post.
Hi! My name is Heather Bellanger and I’m excited to be a Guest Designer for June. Lately I’ve been making memories faster than I can scrapbook them (very fun problem to have)! So I jumped at the chance to get back to creating. I’ve scrapbooked since the day in 2000 when my husband suggested that I find a hobby - and my love for scrapbooking was born!Since childhood I have been using wool,
embroidery threads, fabric and paper to create.
After a long career in finance, I began
teaching patchwork, embroidery and paper crafts. I loved to see people who thought “I cannot
do that” achieve and succeed.
These days I enjoy scrapbooking, mixed
media and junk journalling. I recently attended a mixed media retreat in
Gundagai, NSW called Down the Rabbit Hole - Alice in Wonderland so much fun and
laughter. I also enjoy cruising
especially if there is scrapbooking involved.
Thank you for the opportunity to be a Guest
Detective this month.
At CSI, we love giving our Case Files a playful twist, and this month’s investigations are simmering with inspiration. June’s challenges celebrate Country Cooking Month and the easy warmth of early summer, inviting you to explore stories of comfort, gathering, sunshine, and the simple pleasures that shape our everyday lives.
Case File No. 478 – Country Cooking Month
There’s a special kind of magic in a well‑loved kitchen—the clatter of jars, the glow of woodgrain, the quiet rituals that nourish both body and memory. This Scene is steeped in cozy, homespun charm: baskets, pitchers, gingham, and the soft hum of daily life unfolding around the table.
The palette mixes reds, creams, olives, and warm browns, echoing the textures of rustic kitchens and treasured recipes passed down through generations. Whether you’re inspired by the cooking motifs, the sense of home, or the idea of tending to what feeds you—literally or figuratively—this Case File invites you to tell stories of comfort, tradition, and the heart of the home.
Case File No. 479 – June & Summer
If Case File 478 celebrates the warmth of the kitchen, Case File 479 steps outside into the bright, open air of summer. This Scene is all about sunshine, breezes, and the joy of long June days—colors that sparkle like blue skies, lemon ice, and sandy afternoons.
The palette blends laser lemon, sky blue, steel blue, white, and soft sand, evoking the lightness and energy of the season. Whether you’re documenting a favorite summer ritual, a moment of joy, or the feeling of stepping into the sun, this Case File encourages you to explore stories of brightness, freedom, and the simple magic of summer.
And remember—you’re never limited to the theme itself. Let the Scenes spark your imagination, or follow the traditional clues at the bottom of this post to guide your investigation. However you interpret the evidence, we can’t wait to see how you solve the Case!

Country Cooking Month
This month’s lead Case invites you to step into a warm, nostalgic kitchen filled with jars, baskets, gingham, and the comforting hum of everyday rituals. The Scene is rich with earthy reds, soft creams, olive greens, and rustic textures that echo the heart of home—where stories simmer, memories gather, and small moments become the ingredients of something meaningful.
You’ll find a full set of traditional clues at the bottom of the reveal, but you’re also welcome to draw your own inspiration straight from the Scene. Whether it’s the color palette, the kitchen motifs, the sense of comfort and routine, or a title that jumps out at you, follow the clues wherever they lead.
I cracked Case #478! The color scheme put me in a Fall mood quickly. I grabbed a photo of my precious neighbors and went to work. I leaned a little more into orange than red, but repeated the off-white and brown colors through paint, texture and layers. I tried to incorporate as many items from the evidence which is the most fun part for me. I used the Late Afternoon line by Amy Tan (one of my favorites!). I added some plaid paper at the top of the layout, the pumpkins in the picture provided my vegetables, leaves in both patterns and neutrals, leaf brads, transparent vellum, distressed edges on my mats, machine stitching along the top with hand stitching near the title piece and of course a little metal on the paperclip heart. I had so much fun digging through my stash to find as many elements as possible! The CSI cases always get me digging and creating layouts with lots of texture. Hope you found some inspiration today!

💡 NEED HELP GETTING STARTED?
If you’re feeling stuck, here are a few ways to jump into Case File No. 478. This month’s Scene is all about the warmth of home — kitchens, comfort, and the small rituals that nourish us. Let the colors and imagery guide you, or follow one of these creative prompts to get your layout simmering:
Play with color — Use reds, creams, olives, and warm browns to echo the palette of the Scene. Try mixing patterned papers like gingham or stripes to mimic the cozy textures of a country kitchen.
Focus on texture — Layer woodgrain, linen, stitching, or recipe‑card elements to create a tactile, homespun feel.
Tell a story of home — Document a favorite recipe, a family tradition, a shared meal, or a moment that feels like “home.”
Add a touch of charm — Include jars, labels, baskets, utensils, or handwritten notes as storytelling elements.
Cluster your clues — Build a kitchen‑counter‑style cluster with layered embellishments, recipe cards tucked behind photos, or tiny tags for your journaling.
Whether you interpret the theme literally or metaphorically, let your creativity simmer — this Case File is all about celebrating the comfort, connection, and stories that come from the heart of the home.
Investigators, the clues are waiting to be uncovered — tucked between recipe cards and paper layers, hidden in warm woods and soft creams, scattered among jars, labels, and tiny kitchen details just waiting for you to gather them up.
You might find yourself drawn to the cozy calm of the kitchen — the quiet beauty of well‑loved tools, handwritten notes, and sun‑washed colors that whisper of comfort and routine. Or perhaps you’ll follow the vibrant pull of bold reds, playful patterns, and nostalgic charm — where creativity feels like it’s simmering on the stove and memories rise like steam.
One path or both — the choice is yours.
Let the Scene be your story. Let the details guide your design. Gather your supplies, layer your elements, and listen for the clues that speak loudest to you.
Will you document a moment of home — a favorite recipe, a shared meal, or a ritual that nourishes your days? Will you capture the beauty of everyday comforts, the ones that warm and steady you? Or will you blend whimsy and warmth into a story uniquely your own?
Use what sparks your imagination and challenge yourself to collect as many clues as you can carry.
Your mission: investigate the Scene, assemble the evidence, craft your layout, and tell the story only you can tell.
The case is open. The inspiration is simmering. Are you ready to solve it?
